One Bowl Brownies

Craving chocolate? These amazing one bowl brownies whip up super fast. You can even make them using leftover candy instead of chocolate chips!

Everyone needs a go-to chocolate brownie recipe that whips up super fast using ingredients you probably already have on hand. And if it only messes up one bowl in the process? Well, that’s even better! Of course when my friend Natalie shared this recipe with me a few weeks ago, insisting that these were the best brownies on the planet, I have to admit, I was skeptical. After all, I’ve already publicly declared my allegiance to brownies from a box. How much better could these ones be?

So. Much. Better.

Fudgy, chocolatey, melt-in-your-mouth-and-make-you-want-to-cry better.

I know when I’ve been beaten. These One Bowl Brownies win the gold medal, hands down.

But do you want to know the best part of all? You can make these brownies using 12 ounces of any chocolate you happen to have sitting around. I used milk chocolate chips for this particular batch, but come Monday I will definitely be confiscating, er repurposing all those chocolate eggs from the Easter Bunny. You know, to make brownies for my kids. 😉

One Bowl Brownies

Here is what you need:

12 ounces chocolate chips or chocolate candy
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter
3/4 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Melt butter and chocolate in microwave for 30 seconds.

Step 2: Stir; return to microwave and heat for 30 seconds more until chocolate is melted.

Step 3: Add sugar, eggs, flour, and salt and mix until smooth.

Step 4: Add vanilla extract, and fold in walnuts if using.

Step 5: Pour into greased 8×8 glass baking dish and bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes.

Step 6: Remove from oven; let cool for 10 minutes then cut into 2×2 inch squares with plastic knife.

  • Has anyone had success with this recipe in a 9x13???

    • You can try a 9x9 pan but there is not enough batter for a 9x13 pan.

  • Two thumbs up! I will be replacing my tried and true recipe with this one! :)

  • Do you ever have problems with the chocolate seizing? I made them anyway, but the chips/butter went from melty to thick thick. I'm still going to eat them. I'm wondering if there was maybe a drop of water in the bowl or something. :/ Just wanted to know if that's normal.

  • these looks so good! But I have an metal aluminum 8x8 baking pan not a glass pan. I was wondering do I still keep the oven at the same temp and time?? Bc somewhere I was reading on some other recipes they said for aluminum and glass baking dishes they changed the oven temp and time. Thanks I really wanna try it!

    • You would need to adjust the time, glass cooks faster than metal.

  • Thanks!!!! I wanted something sweet and these were the perfect quick throw together!

  • Omg these were delicious! The best brownies ive ever made!!! (Used to use betty crockers mix) never again will i buy the mix. The brownies were moist and crispy on top its perfect. I added whit chocolate chip on half the tray 10 minutes before taking it out and it was like having a smore!

  • I just threw a batch of these in the oven! I was short on chocolate chips a bit so I did sub in some peanut butter. Hoping I didn't ruin the recipe! My husband will be so excited to try these. This was my first time making brownies :)

  • Brownie batter is naturally quite thick, dont worry about the consistency :) . Amazingly easy recipe, thankyou!

  • I put these in mini cupcake tins to take to a bonfire and they turned out amazingly!!!! Soo cute and tasty and I put a tiny bit of vanilla frosting on some of them and those were great too!
