Ready for the best mock apple pie recipe? This Mountain Dew apple dumpling recipe uses a can of soda for a gooey, delicious apple dessert you’ll love!
When my friend Jenny–who you may remember from this amazing fish recipe–first shared this funny little recipe with me a few years ago, I literally laughed out loud. It just sounded so crazy! I mean, seriously…..Mountain Dew? In a baked dish? I thought she was joking.
Until, of course, I tasted it.
That’s when I begged her for the recipe. Luckily for me and for all of you, she was happy to share.
Of course I do feel the need to start with a word of caution for those of you, who despite the name “Mountain Dew Apple Dumplings,” were expecting some sort of whole-food-clean-eating-organic-gluten-free-or-otherwise-healthy dessert. It is not healthy in any way. It is full of preservatives and white sugar and probably even some high-fructose-corn-syrup. If this bothers you, just click away now! For the rest of you, keep reading. This is one quick & easy recipe you will want to whip up again and again!
Here is what you need:
2 cans refrigerated crescent rolls 2 baking apples, such as Gala, McIntosh, or Granny Smith 3/4 cup sugar 1/2 stick of butter, melted cinnamon 6 ounces Mountain Dew soda cooking sprayStep 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Peel and core apples, then slice into 8 wedges each, or use an apple peeler-corer-slicer to do it.
Step 2: Spray 9×13″ baking dish with cooking spray; set aside. Unroll crescent rolls.
Step 3: Wrap 1 apple wedge in crescent roll, then pinch seams together to cover apple completely. Place in dish; repeat with remaining apple wedges.
Step 4: Mix together melted butter & sugar, then liberally crumble sugar mixture over top of crescent rolls. Sprinkle with cinnamon.
Step 5: Pour Mountain Dew over crescent rolls. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes, until rolls are golden brown. Serve warm, with ice cream if desired.

My husband and I are cutting back on sugar so I substituted monk fruit in its place. I also used diet Mt. Dew. We loved it!
Can you use the same recipe substituting peaches for apples?
Peaches won't stand up as well as apples but I'm sure you could give it a try. :)
My niece and I just made this recipe as stated! It is delicious! We will definitely try the other different varieties of this recipe.
I made these today. They are absolutely delicious. I did do some things that were a little different. I used 3/4 stick of melted butter. I also cut the apple slices up in little pieces. I put about 1/2 cup of brown sugar in the sliced apples with 3/4's of a spoon of cinnamon sugar. I will certainly make these again. The next time that I make them, i will put 1teaspoon of red hot candies in each apple dumpling. That's the way my sweet mother made her baked apples...red hot candies mixed with brown and granulated sugar and cinnamon. In the future, I will also make them with peaches, pineapple, etc. Believe me...this recipe is delightfully good
I make these at Christmas and everyone loves them
Can you use 7 up instead of Mountain Dew?
Yes, that will work too. ;)
Thank you so much for this post, I made them for my hubby for his birthday and he thinks I am amazing! He has no idea how easy these are or of the secret ingredient. Thanks again, we both decided this recipe is a keeper!
easy and delicious..... indulge once in a while!
Mt.Dew contains brominated vegetable oil. Never put this stuff into your body. It's dangerous
Looks delicious!!! Apple desserts are my favorite!
One questions from your picture, is it a half a cup or a half a stick of butter? The recipe says half a cup but the picture has half a stick (which is a quarter of a cup).
Thanks for the clarification
If you want to get rid of the HFCS, use Mountain Dew Throwback. It's made with real sugar. Still unhealthy and stuff, but at least no HFCS. My hubs prefers this kind to the original.
