These little felt snowballs are super fun to make. I used my sewing machine to do most of the sewing, but if you don’t own one you could probably do the whole thing by hand with only slightly more effort. These ornaments look beautiful hanging on the tree, but they make a great gift idea as well. Give a set as a hostess gift, or tie one to the top of a present for a little extra flair!
I used cream colored felt to make them look like little snowballs, but any color would work.
Here is what you will need:
sewing machine very sharp scissors felt (5 sheets will make 4 ornaments) permanent marker ribbon needle & thread glue gun clear glue-on gemsStack 5 pieces of felt together, then trace a 4″ circle on your top layer of felt.
Using a very sharp scissors, cut out circles out of all 5 layers. Be sure to trim away any black remaining from the marker.
Sew circles together in one straight line down the middle.
To form ball, start by stitching 2 adjacent flaps together in the center of curve, so that you now have 5 connected flaps.
Next, stitch the opposite flaps together halfway between the center stitch and the tops and bottoms of the ball. Repeat until the entire ball forms a honeycomb pattern. I used my sewing machine for all of this, simply going back and forth for a few stitches in each direction, but you could also do this part entirely by hand.
Using a needle and thread, stitch a loop of ribbon to the top of ornament.
Using hot glue gun, carefully glue small gemstones to each connection.
