Food Made Simple

Easy Beer Can Chicken

Here’s a smart twist on a classic! Beer Can Chicken is always a favorite, but this recipe makes it easier than ever! (And all because I found a great deal!)

Not long ago, while grocery shopping,I did a double take on a condiment I had never noticed until it was on sale for a bargain price–hoagie spread. And while I’m not really a big fan of hoagies, after checking out the ingredients, I knew that this would make a great marinade for chicken.

But not just any chicken…..Beer Can Chicken.

Not only is a whole chicken usually cheaper, it also tends to be more flavorful. Using a pre-made hoagie spread is a fun and simple dinner hack. I promise that you will definitely want to put Easy Beer Can Chicken on this week’s menu (and that your whole family will thank you!)

And if you’re worried that it will be too spicy for the kids–don’t be! Cento’s hoagie spread gives the chicken just the right amount of spice and a ton of flavor. That the end result is an easy,  juicy, and delicious dinner that everyone will love.

Here is what you need:

3 TBSP Cento Cherry Peppers Hoagie spread
2 TBSP Olive Oil
1 4-5lb roasting chicken
1 can beer

Step 1: Clean chicken, then pat dry and set aside. Mix together the Cherry pepper spread and the olive oil in a measuring cup.

Step 2: Place chicken in a gallon size bag, then pour marinade over top. Massage marinade over chicken, then push out extra air and seal bag. Allow chicken to marinate for at least 12 hours.

Step 3: On cooking day, take the chicken out of the fridge at least 5 minutes before you start your grill. Spray grill with non-stick cooking spray and adjust the temperature to medium-high. Pour yourself half of the beer then take the chicken out of the bag and place it over the open half-filled beer can. Balance the beer can with the chicken on grill and close grill lid.

Step 4: Cook for an hour and 15 minutes, the internal temperature should read 165 in the breast and 180 in the thighs. Carefully, remove can of beer out of the chicken.

Step 5: Let chicken rest for 3 minutes then carve and serve with your favorite sides.

  • Thanks for sharing a tasty recipe. As images shows, its a crispy chicken.

  • I have not cooked whole chicken in my instant pot yet, how long will you cook it? My grill is a portable so not deep enough to do this. Thanks!

  • This looks SO good, and I know it will taste amazing because we ALWAYS have a jar of that hoagie spread in our fridge, it's sooooo delicious! I never thought of using it for anything BUT hoagies, duh! Great idea. I may try marinading the chicken and cooking in the instant pot, with the beer as the liquid below, as my grill is in terrible condition right now! lol =) Thanks!
