These semi-homemade salted caramel pretzel crust brownies are the world’s most perfect treat! The best part? Less than an hour to bake these tasty brownies!
It’s pretty hard to improve on brownies from a box. I have tried making them from scratch more than once, but quite frankly, for all that effort, they just don’t taste any better. And let’s face it. Brownies are goooood.
But do you know what can take brownies in a box from really yummy to so good they will make you cry?
Oh-so-easy homemade crockpot caramel and pretzels, my friend, and a few dark chocolate chips for good measure.
It’s a taste sensation.
Your mouth will thank you. Your waistline will not. 🙂
Here is what you need:
3 cups mini pretzels 4 tablespoons melted better 1 box brownie mix 2 eggs (per the box directions) vegetable oil water 3/4 cup dark chocolate chips 1 jar oh-so-easy crockpot caramel or store-bought caramel sauce salt cooking sprayStep 1: Place pretzels in a gallon sized Ziploc bag and crush as finely as possible with rolling pin.
Step 2: Mix brownie mix with water, eggs, & oil per the box instructions. Add dark chocolate chips.
Step 3: Spread pretzel crumbs out on bottom of 9×13″ baking pan. Drizzle with butter and mix well until pretzels are coated, then press into a crust on bottom of pan.
Step 4: Carefully pour brownie batter evenly over pretzels crust
Step 5: Carefully drizzle caramel over brownie batter in zig-zag motion, as shown.
Step 6: Pull a knife through the caramel in alternating directions to create a pretty pattern. Sprinkle with salt.
Step 7: Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 25 minutes. (Check box directions for baking time.) Remove brownies from oven and let cool slightly. While brownies are still warm, cut into squares with plastic knife.
Step 9: Let cool completely, then serve. Mmmmmmmmm…….

My daughter brought these over for dinner and I loved them. It is true the pretzels didn’t form a crust so after cutting, she turned them upside down and lightly pressed the pretzels into the brownie and they stayed put pretty well.
I ended up baking this an extra 30 minutes. I kept putting it back in for 5 minute increments and every time I took it out it was still jiggly. The pretzels unfortunately didn’t really make a crust after I baked it. Not sure what happened there. I made this using the sweetened and condensed milk in the crockpot to make the caramel sauce. I took a little taste of it and didn’t seem super caramely to me. I really wanted to love this but it didn’t quite deliver.
Just made these and they turned out awful! i baked for 35 minutes becuase they were completely raw after 25. they still seem very underbaked. i cut them and they are just a mess. they taste wonderful but i made them to take to an event and im very disappointed at their appearance. they are going to fall into a mess when i take them out of the pan. im very sad becuase they taste so good! maybe we'll eat them with ice cream tonight instead...
Same here. Bummer.
How much salt is sprinkled ??
Not a cook so only l could mess up a boxed Brownie. Box said smaller pan, l used 9x13 stated. Didn't have enough brownie mix or enough butter for the pretzel mix. One thing l didn't mess up was the taste. Next time l will double brownie mix. Delish. Thank you for sharing!
So excited to try this!! Thanks for the recipe!!!
I made these without the caramel sauce and iced them with chocolate frosting. Yum, I love the pretzel crust.
Thank you for this recipe! I'll be making them for a BBQ on the $th of July! I looked all over online for a salted caramel pretzel brownie recipe and yours looked the best by far :) thank you from one Jesus-loving momma to another!

I haven't been able to eat boxed brownies since I started making Epicurious' "Best Cocoa Brownies". Worlds away better than boxed, in my opinion.
However, these look awesome, and I will definitely be trying them! Salt+caramel+chocolate.. there's no way this can go wrong. :)
These brownies look delish! Thank you so much for sharing the recipe. I am pinning!
